We’re firm believers in the saying, “The best things in life are free.” And in this city, art is no exception. Miami serves up plenty of opportunities to discover innovative new works and time-honored masterpieces without spending a dime. From guided art walks through the city’s most creative hoods to free hours at the finest museums around, every week offers a chance to unleash your inner dilettante.

Art Walks

In addition to spotlighting the best of the Miami art scene, these breezy walks often offer free booze and live music (big thumbs up). Our personal favorites are the Wynwood Art Walk the second Saturday of the month, the Bird Road Art Walk the third Saturday of the month (the Miami New Times Best Art Walk of 2011), and the Lincoln Road Art Walk every Saturday night.

Others worth checking out:

Studio Crawl (first Saturday of the month)

Little Havana Art Walk (second Friday of the month)

The Falls Art District Gallery Walk (every Friday)

Viernes Culturales/Cultural Fridays (last Friday of the month)

Museums

To experience the other side of Miami’s art culture on the cheap, all that’s required is good timing. Below is a list of some our favorite local museums and when you should check them out.

Wolfsonian-FIU: free every Friday after 6pm + films, talks and café drink specials (15 minutes by bus, directions)
