If you’ve spent any time on our part of the beach, you’ve probably noticed the high-flying kitesurfing kites of our friends Daniel and Francisco. (And if you haven’t, be sure to keep an eye out for them the next time you’re in the neighborhood.) Together they’re Skybanditz, a local outfit that posts up oceanfront everyday and offers (pretty damn awesome) kitesurfing, paddleboarding and surfing adventures. So who’s up for some adrenaline-inducing fun?
Before going on our very own escapade, we sat down with the guys to learn more about their love for all things kitesurfing, paddleboarding and surfing:
Freehand Miami: Who/What inspired your love for kitesurfing and paddleboarding?
Francisco: I was inspired to take up kiteboarding for simply one reason: to fly! Paddleboarding inspired me to complete all my Waterman Skills!
Daniel: I was running on the 29th Street beach and saw many kites around and saw Frank (Francisco) Escudero giving a lesson to a blonde Hungarian girl. I realized kitesurfing is a mental sport.
What are some of the most popular Skybanditz’s courses?
Francisco: Our most popular courses are the VIP and six-hour beginners course – the complete entry-level experience.
Daniel: And our three-hour accelerated kitesurfing course.
If you could kitesurf/paddleboard anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Francisco: I would go kiteboarding, paddleboarding and surfing in Tavarua!
Daniel: Kitesurfing in Tarifa, Spain, and paddleboarding in Nicaragua.
When you’re not at the beach, where do you like to hang out in Miami?
Daniel: You can find me pre-partying at Hyde Beach at SLS, having dinner at Barezzito Miami or taking a walk down Lincoln Road.
Francisco: The locals spot: The Broken Shaker at none other than the Freehand Miami.
If you could hang out with anyone at The Broken Shaker, living or dead, real or imaginary, who would it be?
Daniel: Leonardo da Vinci
Francisco: You have his picture in the bar… The Duke!
